Doris Kearns Goodwin

Host Marcia Franklin sits down with historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Goodwin's most recent book, Team of Rivals, chronicles the lives of Abraham Lincoln and his cabinet members. During the discussion, Goodwin talks about the lessons we can learn from Lincoln, the rare president who asked his main rivals to be part of his cabinet — rivals who then became allies. She also speculates about whether such a political move could succeed in today's world.
