Bill Bonnichsen Biography
Bill Bonichsen is an Idaho native son who became an internationally reknowned geologist. His pioneering work on giant rhyolite lava flows in Idaho's Snake River Plain volcanic province stimulated research on similar flows in Great Britian, Australia, Africa, Mexico, South America, and many other places. He has worked for the Idaho Geological Survey at the University of Idaho since 1976, and holds the titles of Research Geologist and Adjunct Professor. His principal research interests are the study of volcanism and the geology of Idaho. During his career he has prepared geologic maps and made observations on the origin of the rocks in many parts of Idaho, especially the Snake River Plain, and elsewhere.
