Ed Bottum, Biography

Ed Bottum grew up on the prairies of the Great Plains. His interest in wetlands began with tadpoles and toads when he was eight years old. As an undergraduate in college he studied zoology, the biology of animals. When he attended graduate school in Pocatello he studied botany, the biology of plants.

Ed decided he wanted to work with wild animals when he volunteered to help a friend catch and band Canada geese. Since then he has worked all around Idaho and touched many kinds of living, wild creatures. His love of botany has helped him understand and appreciate how important habitat is to animals.

Ed now works as a wetland ecologist with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, studying ways to conserve wetlands around the state. He and his wife live in Boise.
