Steven L. Shropshire Biography
Steve Shropshire
is an Associate Professor of Physics at Idaho State University. His
research interests are in the use of nuclear spectroscopy techniques
in the study of materials science. His other interests focus on improving
science education in K-12 schools. Dr. Shropshire has conducted over
700 science presentations at southeast Idaho schools, and over 320 science
workshops for K-12 teachers. He is involved in the American Association
of Physics Teachers, the Idaho Science Teachers Association, and the
National Science Teachers Association. He participates in several educational
summer programs including Elderhostel, Summer Science Academy, Junior
Science Academy, and Gang Reeducation and Training (Camp Great), sponsored
by ISU, the Idaho Museum of Natural History, and the Pocatello Police
Department. He has also participated in programs through the Boy Scouts
of America and the Girl Scouts of America. Dr. Shropshire has been awarded
the ISU Outstanding Public Servant Award in 1996, 1999, 2001, and 2003,
the Salvation Army Community Hero Award in 2000 and 2003, and is recognized
nationally as an expert in science outreach.
