“In politics, doing what is easy and doing what is right are often two very different things. Unfortunately, too many elected officials choose to do what is easy instead of standing on principle and doing what is right. We have all watched as our conservative values of lower taxes, limited government, and traditional family values have been compromised or even abandoned. Too many politicians choose to take the easy way out and vote for bigger government, more spending, and shameful pork barrel projects like the $223 million ’Bridge to Nowhere’ - a bridge to serve a community of only 50 people in Alaska. This might be the way they do business in Washington, but it is wrong and it needs to end.
I am running for Congress because I know we can do better. Now, more than ever, we need the courage to stand up for our conservative principles and do what is right.
This is what I have done while serving in the Idaho Legislature. As a member of the Idaho House of Representatives, I have always fought for the conservative values we share - even when it meant opposing members of my own party.
Standing on principle and doing what is right has been my stance during my time in the Legislature. It is why I led the fight against raising your sales taxes when many other Republicans were voting for it. It is why I sponsored the law requiring a parent's consent for minors seeking abortions. I have always believed that my duty as a state legislator was to the good people who elected me, not special interests or other politicians. This has been my guiding principle as a Legislator, and it will be my guiding principle in Congress.
In the coming month, I hope to win your support and your vote in the May 23rd Republican Primary for Congress. More importantly though, I want to win your trust and confidence that as your next Congressman, I will always stand on principle and never waver from my conservative beliefs while serving you in Congress.
Taxes: I have pledged to vote against all tax increases, and have kept that promise for 16 years in the legislature. I will continue that pledge in Congress and fight for a balanced budget.
Gun Rights: For my work protecting your right to keep and bear arms, I have been endorsed by the NRA since 1991 and have held their A+ rating since 1994. I will continue to protect your 2nd Amendment rights in Congress.
Protecting the Unborn: I have received awards for my work writing and sponsoring Idaho's laws that protect unborn children and parents. In Congress, I will continue the fight to protect the unborn.
Activist Judges: Legislating from the bench to redefined marriage and take away your property rights must stop. I will always fight judicial activists.
Secure Borders: I believe that we must secure our borders to enhance national security, keep terrorists out and stop the epidemic of illegal immigration.”
