Statement of Robert Vasquez

My opponents would say that I am a 'One Issue' candidate; I would ask, "Which One?" I am a solid advocate for Veterans and our U.S. Military. I am acutely aware of the for Veterans when funding is diverted. How is it that illegal aliens are provided free and immediate health-care and the veterans have to wait in line, some times for months? Our military men and women deserve their benefits and should be first in line.

As a combat veteran, I have witnessed the loss of life under horrific conditions. However, none compare to ripping a defenseless, unborn child from the womb. I am Pro-Life.

I am a fiscal conservative. As a County Commissioner, I refused to vote for an increase in taxes for a new jail. The problem could be resolved if we could have Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE), formerly the INS, deport the illegal aliens that currently clog the system. I also took a pro-active step in sending a bill to the Mexican Consulate for $2,000,000; this was to cover the expenses to Canyon County for indigent medical welfare, criminal incarceration and medical care for illegal aliens. I, of course, do not expect the bill to be acknowledged or paid. I simply believe that to have it stated in black- and-white makes it more tangible for people to understand.

There are those who have utilized the 14th amendment to illegally claim citizenship as Americans. The 14th Amendment carries no such attribution of citizenship to those who are not "under the jurisdiction of the United States" at the time of their birth, as their parents are in our country illegally.

Initially, I had no thought of "taking-on the invading millions of illegal aliens". But in 1992, after writing an opinion piece for the Idaho Press Tribune, I was forced out of a position with Idaho's Department of Health and Welfare. My offense? I stated I believed English should be America's official language! It was then I became aware of the assault on America by 'leftist' forces; intent on the political, social re-structuring of America's language, culture and values. A simple opinion represented a threat of exposure through reasoned opinion.

Our language, culture, and values are being slowly eradicated to make way for global-business profits - without regard to how that affects working Americans. Early in March, I accepted an invitation to join the national board of advisors for ProEnglish, a national organization that advocates making English the official language of the United States. I am also a co-founding member of a newly formed group, Mayors and Executives for Immigration Reform. This group of elected officials will use a united-voice to help encourage control of the unarmed invasion.

As a U.S. Citizen, a Soldier wounded in battle and a Father of two; the task of defending my country was thrust upon me. I didn't choose the fight, the fight chose me!
