The National Teacher Training Institute and IdahoPTV are proud to present the 1999 lesson plans developed by students and faculty of the University of Idaho. In 1999, IdahoPTV worked with the University of Idaho Education faculty and demonstrated the NTTI methodology. Faculty members went back to their classrooms and conducted hands-on training with pre-service teachers, modeling strategies for effectively using video to explain, motivate, reinforce, and reach students' different learning styles, as they grapple with math and science concepts. Here at IdahoPTV we feel it is critical to support and prepare teachers in the effective use of technology, both at the pre-service level and for veteran teachers.

The Great Winged Adventure by Joanna VanAusdeln and Bianca Davidson
Learn about birds! Students will learn about the aerodynamics of flight and the defining characteristics of birds! This unit integrates the math, science, and reading together. A total of six separate activities, use one or use them all!

Let it Grow! by Karen Tripepi
An introductory lesson, intended to"kick off' a larger study of plants and plant growth. In this lesson, students explore the basic requirements for plant growth through a series of experimental activities. They learn about the basic elements needed for plant-life to survive. A great introduction to the process of photosynthesis.

Creatures from the Past by Mansour Sheibany and Pamela Howard
Students investigate the different characteristics of dinosaurs! Four separate lesson plans with bibliography and "dinosaur definitions" included.   A favorite topic for early elementary!

This lesson is intended to teach students about the purpose and process of archeology, as well as demonstrate how it applies to their own lives, through a simulated archeological dig.

Area of the Lawn Project by Kirk Brower
One of the necessary elements of algebra is area. This lesson will introduce a brief series of practical problem solving skills related to area. These lessons are designed to assess students' abilities to compute area calculations in meaningful and practical methods.   Great lessons to make math come alive for junior high students!

Lakes and Ponds by Stacy Becker
These lessons will focus on lakes and ponds and the role they play in maintaining habitats for humans and wildlife. Students will learn about the various ecosystems that are sustained within lakes and ponds and how their individual behaviors can effect the overall health of these important water systems. Students will extend their understanding of lakes and ponds through learning about career opportunities, learning how to become good stewards of their waterways, and respecting the importance of lakes and ponds in their daily lives. There are a total of three lessons in this unit with lots of ideas on extending the learning to all parts of the curriculum.

The Science of Changing Seasons by Jay D. Dunn
During this lesson students are first presented with simple observations about seasonal change. They are then given time to ponder the mechanisms that drive these changes. Later, they will perform experiments that show what causes the earth to heat differently during different seasons. Students will be asked to analyze the results of these experiments and apply them to what they know from their daily observations.

Students will learn the effects of population growth as they participate in this comprehensive unit which illustrates what happens when exponential growth is limited by finite resources. Students will investigate their own community's environmental quality and how they can become pro-active elements of change for the environment.

Aids, A Modern Day Epidemic by Michelle Roland
Students will learn about  Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome(AIDS); the physiological effects of HIV on the immune system and the epidemic proportions of this disease through online and offline activities.
