Idaho, An Anglers Paradise
Coeur d'Alene Lake

Coeur d'Alene Lake Aeriel Shot Coeur d'Alene Lake is another of the glacially carved big lakes of northern Idaho. At one time National Geographic labeled it as one of the world's five most beautiful lakes. Its brilliant waters continue to attract visitors from around the globe. They come to swim, sail, ski, sightsee, boat and of course to fish.

Pike PicThe rippling waters of the twenty-three mile long lake hold Chinook salmon, kokanee, rainbow and cutthroat trout, bass, crappie, and ferocious pike. The northern pike is an introduced game fish with a vicious set of teeth.

It looks more like an alligator than any of Idaho's native fish, but in the thirty years since they were planted in the lake anglers have grown to love them.

Jeff Smith on a boatFishing for northern pike requires only the basics…a boat, rod, reel, and a few simple lures. It's a great fish for beginners because the casting is easy, and often you can see your target hit the bait. Jeff Smith of the Fins and Feathers tackle shop has helped many anglers hook into these feisty fish.

Jeff Smith
"If you can cast a lure you can pike fish. It's not finesse fishing, they will usually come up and slam it pretty good. There's no question you have a bite."

Fishing for pike is usually best during the spring and fall months. And the stunning scenery is a constant companion year-round.
