South Fork of the Snake
From its impoundment at Palisades Reservoir the South Fork of the Snake swirls and meanders through eastern Idaho, casting glorious ripples in every direction. It is a brilliant waterway blanketed with old growth cottonwoods and flanked by rough basaltic canyons. This southern sister of the Henrys Fork shapes a home for bald eagle, osprey, moose, deer and elk.
Amidst these graceful currents live a dense concentration of cutthroat, rainbows and brown trout. It's one of the state's premier fisheries, and for Lori-Ann Murphy there is no better place to cast her line. Murphy, who lives in nearby Victor, founded Reel Women Outfitters a decade ago. Though she guides fishing trips around the world she loves returning to the South Fork.
Lori-Ann Murphy - Reel Women Fly Fishing Adventures
"I refer to this water as my home water because I live here, I'm on the
river a lot here, I watch it change daily. To me that is magic and I feel
really lucky that I get to be a part of this system.
The drift boat is a wonderful tool to transport Lori and her guests through nearly thirty miles of road less river corridor. It's also a great way to cover lots of water in pursuit of feisty fish. And while drift boats are very popular, you'll also find rafts and other types of boats used on the South Fork. But whether you're gently floating down river in a boat or leisurely casting from some secluded shore the South Fork deserves it's reputation as one of Idaho's most beautiful and productive fishing locations.
