Journey Down the Middle Fork
This one has it all: remarkably clear water, spectacular scenery, big horn sheep, Indian rock paintings, excellent hot springs, and, of course, lots of whitewater.
A float trip down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River is the standard by which all other rivers are judged. It’s a hundred miles – and a hundred rapids -- and every kind of terrain imaginable.
A couple of my rafting buddies joined me for my Idaho Getaway. Among them, we had competent rafters, solid fishermen, great cooks and passable story tellers. In short, everything you need to have a safe, wonderful time on a wilderness river.
I’ve floated the river in the summer, but this was my first September trip. In the fall, the river is bonier and a bit more technical, but a lot quieter and less crowded. We liked it.
I would highly recommend this Idaho Getaway to every Idahoan, regardless of your river experience. Contact one of Idaho's outfitters. They will make this the one vacation you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
