The chance to get outside and feel the wind against your face…to barrel down a hill or glide through the trees… to experience the dramatic blue and white of winter…that may be the essence and appeal of skiing. Scattered throughout Idaho, nineteen resorts offer a variety of runs to experience this snowy ritual.
With the country’s first destination ski resort, and world’s first chairlifts, at Sun Valley… the state of Idaho will always hold a special place in the history of downhill skiing. But it’s the community ski hills where people often first learn to have fun in the snow. And while certain aspects of skiing and snowboarding are seen as individual sports, there is a social side to skiing as well. Often groups of skiers hit the slopes together, and sometimes ski resorts involve entire communities. Outdoor Idaho looks at three Home Town Ski Hills.
