Sir Ian McKellen narrates this documentary, which explores many of the myths that surround the Churchill legend, revealing the complexity of the real man who was soldier, adventurer, politician, author and arguably the greatest Englishman of the 20th century. The program presents an intimate representation of Winston Churchill's extraordinary character and life, illuminating the forces that drove him. The advisor to the series is Churchill's granddaughter Celia Sandys, author of two major accounts of her grandfather's life: From Winston With Love and Kisses: The Young Churchill and Churchill: Wanted Dead or Alive, an account of his time in South Africa . . .

Episode Description
Tuesday, Sep 3, 2013 - 7:00 PM    "The Last Prize" Churchill travels to the Normandy beaches in June 1944. When victory in Europe comes, he leads the celebrations, but in private, he broods about the dangers of Stalin and communism. Within two months, he loses an election and is out of office until he contests the 1951 election and returns as prime minister one month short of his 77th birthday.
