Simon and Garfunkel: Songs of America

Episode Description
Thursday, Mar 10, 2011 - 7:00 PM    Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel perform at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, November 11, 1969. Originally produced as a special for the "Bell Telephone Hour" on CBS, it soon becomes controversial and Bell Telephone backs out. CBS does air it a few weeks later with a new sponsor. The duo's intention is to use their music and lyrics to cover contemporary issues such as Vietnam, poverty and racial inequality. They choose contemporary footage and are backed by an orchestra for the event. Songs include "America," "Cuba Si Nixon No," "So Long Frank Lloyd Wright," "At the Zoo," "Scarborough Fair," "Mrs. Robinson," "Feelin' Groovy," and "The Sound of Silence." The pair debut "Bridge Over Troubled Water" on this program. G
