But only two years after Neil Armstrong first walked on the moon in 1969, public and political interest in Apollo dwindled. The final moon landing occurred in December 1972 with a crew of Commander Eugene Cernan, Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt. G
