After failing to stop Hetch Hetchy dam, the conservation movement pushes the federal government to establish one unified agency to oversee the now dozen national parks scattered among agencies. The National Park Service is established in 1916, directed by Stephen Mather, a wealthy businessman and passionate park advocate.
