Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name by Douglas A. Blackmon, this film explores the post-Emancipation era and the labor practices and laws that effectively create a new form of slavery in the South, which persists well into the 20th century. This "neoslavery" sentences African-Americans to forced labor for violating an array of laws that criminalized every day behavior. Actor Laurence Fishburne narrates. G
