Hal David, 90, and Burt Bacharach, 83, first begin collaborating in the 1950s in New York's storied Brill Building. In the 1960s and 1970s they are almost as well-known as the singers for whom they wrote. The Multiple Grammy- and Academy-Award-winning songwriters now join the ranks of Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney as recipients of the fourth Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
