"A New Adam/A New Eden"
The miniseries begins with the origins of America's unique religious landscape and how the New World challenged and changed faiths brought from Europe. New Mexico's Pueblo Indians collide with the Catholic faith of the Spanish Franciscans. Puritan leader John Winthrop faces religious dissenters. Evangelical preacher George Whitfield and others sweep through the colonies. Then, following the American Revolution, evangelical Baptists and enlightenment figures like Thomas Jefferson forge a new concept of religious freedom and the film looks at its impact as the nation pushes westward.
