"Two Spirits"
This story of Fred Martinez, a Navajo boy, who in another era would have been honored but instead becomes one of the youngest hate-crime victims in modern history when he is brutally murdered at 16. When he tells his mother that he feels as if he is both a boy and a girl, she explains that this is a special gift, according to traditional Navajo culture - the two-spirit tradition. The film examines the ancient tradition as well as issues of bullying and violence. G
