This episode begins with a segment taped on location with Valori Wells: fabric designer, sewer, and quilter. She presents a modern quilt featuring paint, embroidery, machine stitching, and specialty fabric-for an integrated design. D

NOVA  "Ultimate Mars Challenge"  To achieve its successful landing on Mars with its precious load of instruments, the rover Curiosity first had to parachute through the Martian atmosphere at twice the speed of sound, then be gently lowered to the planet's surface by "sky crane" - a first-of-its-kind system. NOVA joins the scientists and engineers responsible for Curiosity's on-the-ground experiments, and is there for the exhilarating moments after the successful landing.G

Outdoor Idaho  "The Foothills"  The backdrop for Idaho's Statehouse and the city of Boise is also the instant getaway for people in the Treasure Valley with more than 10,000 acres set aside through a voter-approved levy and more than 135 miles of trails. Runners, walkers, mountain bikers, wildflower hunters, wildlife watchers and more make year around use of the Foothills, which merge into the Boise Ridge, topped by Bogus Basin Ski Resort.G

Oregon Field Guide  "Jim Rogers"  Former logger Jim Rogers has helped create one wilderness and is now pushing for protection for another area along the Elk River.G

Dust Bowl  "The Great Plow Up"  This film by Ken Burns chronicles the environmental catastrophe of the Great Plains during the 1930s. The frenzied wheat boom of the early 20th-century that plows the prairie lands becomes the victim of a decade-long drought that turns those lands into deserts and unleashes a pattern of massive, deadly dust storms. Twenty-six survivors of those hard times telling their stories and the eloquently written diaries of two women provide a narrative. Part 1 of 2G

New Tricks  "Ice Cream Wars"  Two families feuding over their rival ice cream businesses includes mysterious raids on their businesses and a shooting during a robbery. Police focused on suspects outside the families but now the UCOS team looks closer to home as the case is re-opened.G

Masterpiece Classic  "Downton Abbey - Part 3"  Growing into his role as heir, Matthew brings out the bitter rivalry between sisters Mary and Edith.
