Prohibition  "A Nation of Scofflaws"  Now illegal to manufacture, transport or sell intoxicating liquor, millions of law-abiding Americans become lawbreakers overnight. Weaknesses in the Volstead Act and its enforcement become clear. Many become victims of the law; alcoholism still exists, and women begin to drink in the speakeasies that replace the male-only saloon. Part 2 of 3G

Prohibition  "A Nation of Drunkards"  Alcohol, embedded in the fabric of American culture since Colonial times, by 1830 was dangerously abused with a national consumption three times today's use. A spiritual fervor sweeps the country, igniting a temperance campaign even as European immigrants arrive with their own drinking customs. Carrie Nation attacks bars with stones and hatchets. The Anti-Saloon League (ASL) forms to push for a Constitutional amendment outlawing alcohol nationally - and succeeds. Part 1 of 3G
