Genetically Modified Organisms"  While genetic modification of organisms has occurred for millennia, we now have the tools to insert specific genes from one organism into cells of unrelated species. This session illustrates the processes used and how such genetically transformed organisms are increasingly common in agriculture, industry, and medicine, and introduces the ethical considerations of GMO research. Making Meaning In Literature: A Workshop for Teachers, Grades 6-8  "Workshop 5. Student Diversity"  The varied viewpoints necessary for valuable class discussions are celebrated in this program. The group talks about the diversity of their students and how their interactions with literature are shaped in part by their life experiences, unique thoughts, and previous reading experiences. They examine the worth of using the lens of multiple perspectives to examine a work of literature, and offer suggestions for ways to encourage each student to contribute to the ongoing classroom conversation. Then, general contractor Tom Silva shares a tip for fixing the handle on a casement window. Afterward, Tom, Richard, host Kevin O'Connor and landscape contractor Roger Cook ask, "What is it?" Kevin travels to Dallas to help a homeowner line her fireplace chimney. D

Knit and Crochet Now!  "Unique Tools"  Maggie makes a unique scarf using the bloom loom and Drew shows how to make scarves using hairpin lace and broom stick lace. Interview with Louisa Harding. D

Donna Dewberry Show  "Cozy & Warm"  Donna paints a rug for a family or child's room, then uses fleece to make a no-sew throw and pillow.G
