The Desert Speaks  "Royal Road Across The Frontier"  In the second part of the journey along the ancient highway, learn about the traditional hot springs of Aguas Calientes that gave the ancient traveler a brief respite from the dry, dusty roads. While the springs no longer exist, the town still marks the boundary between the lush green landscape behind and the dry dangerous desert frontier that looms ahead. The first stop in the desert is the mining town of Zacatecas. D

Nature  "The Himalayas"  Despite their forbidding appearance, the mountains, which are considered sacred, are rich with a surprising array of plants and animals. Snow leopards, red pandas, Asiatic black bears, musk deer, snub-nosed monkeys, Tibetan foxes and high-flying birds populate the heights. Great valleys draw warm wet air in from the tropics, creating rainforests at 8,000 feet, each one a tropical paradise like the long-sought Shangri-la.G

Wild!  "The Great Elephant Gathering"  This film captures the stunning natural phenomenon of wild Sri Lankan elephants assembling in large numbers every year, a behavior found in very few places around the world. But with a dwindling elephant population and the encroachment of their natural habitat and food by an expanding human population, the gathering could be under threat.G

Inside Nature's Giants  "Big Cats"  Dissecting a lion and a tiger, scientists show how alike the two big cats are under the skin. Biologist Simon Watt comes face to face with a liger - a cross between a lion and a tiger. Unlike small cats, both lions and tigers roar and the team analyzes what enables them to make that sound.G
