Globe Trekker  "Papua New Guinea Islands"  The trekkers explore New Britain Island, the largest in the Bismarck Archipelago of Papua New Guinea. Inhabited by the indigenous Papuans and the Austronesians, the island was captured by the Japanese during World War II. Today the island's traditional cultures are diverse and complex but there are several ancient traditions that remain active today, especially the Dukduk Secret Society. D

Outdoor Idaho  "Birders, Banders & Binoculars"  They can be fierce predators and some of the gentlest of creatures. Some are rare, others are quite common; but they all have the power to bewitch and bedazzle. Birds live in a world that for us is the stuff of dreams and wonder. We take to the field to celebrate birds and the people who study, care for, and watch them.G

Oregon Experience  "Leo Adler"  The successful magazine distributor becomes a Baker City booster and philanthropist. At his death in 1993, he leaves a $22 million Leo Adler Foundation, now worth $30 million, that provides educational grants to the area's students.G

Oregon Field Guide  "Cave Diving, Dune Mushers"  Cave divers risk exploring parts of an Oregon cave that have never been seen before. The Oregon Dunes Mail Run is one of the oldest of dog sled musher endurance runs.G

On The Road with Vic Rallo: Italy!  "Chianti"  Vic visits an organic poultry farm in Gaiole, a village in the hills of Chianti and discovers traditional treasures at Badia a Coltibuono, an 11th century abbey now home to a winery and cooking school. At the Lorenza de Medici cooking school, de Midici's daughters, chefs Benedetta and Emanuela, teach Vic easy ways to prepare fresh ingredients, and discuss the region's unique cheese and salume. Tony Verdoni offers a lesson on the folklore of Chianti classico. D
