Nature  "Fortress of the Bears"  Part of the massive Tongass National Forest, Admiralty Island in southeast Alaska supports the largest concentration of bears anywhere in the world. Sustained by a wealth of salmon streams, isolated and protected by their environment, some 1,700 Alaskan brown bears are part of a unique circle of life that has played out here for centuries.G

Wild!  "Lost Whales"  For 150 years, southern right whales were hunted to the brink of extinction, but the discovery of a pod in the Southern Ocean has sparked fresh hope that their numbers are increasing. Intimate underwater footage unveils the behavior of these gentle giants and gives scientists a chance to predict and protect their future recovery. D

Inside Nature's Giants  "Sperm Whale"  Veterinary scientist Mark Evans and comparative anatomist Joy Reidenberg dissect a sperm whale's enormous organs to reveal the secrets of this 45-foot deep-sea giant that died stranded ashore on an English bay. Meanwhile biologist Simon Watt tracks whales in the Azores, and evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins marvels at the gigantic teeth that have evolved in the lower jaw of the sperm whale.G

Wild Caribbean  "Treasure Islands"  This first episode gives an overview of the variety of the Caribbean's natural history, revealing the hidden wild side of the islands. Islands featured include the Bahamas, Barbuda, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Dominica, Montserrat and Trinidad. Part 1 of 4G

Wonders of the West  "Central New Mexico"  Witness the extraordinary flight patterns of migrating snow geese, discover an ice cave hidden in the high desert and learn about animal rehabilitation. Join us as we tour Bandelier National Monument and catch fish in the Jemez mountains. A unique partnership between the U. S. government and Pueblo de Cochiti has preserved an area patterned with unusual rock formations. D

10:30 pm 
Wonders of the West  "Pony Express Territory"  Following the route of the Pony Express through central Nevada, we celebrate one of the most significant wetlands systems in the American West at the annual Spring Wings Festival. Join us as we tour the historic Eureka Opera House, take a ride on a working railroad and go gem hunting for garnets. Learn about the history of wild horses in Nevada and get an overview of the amazing Great Basin National Park. D
