Sewing with Nancy  "Machine Needle Felting, Part 1"  Use simplified felting, shading, and hand embroidery techniques to create fiber art. Fiber artist Isabella Hoffman joins Nancy in showing how to creatively incorporate felting, shading and blending, and hand embroidery skills for a fiber art masterpiece. Machine felting makes the project quick, while fabric marker shading techniques and hand embroidery give it personality. D

Grand View  "Golden Gate National Recreation Area"  Baumann sets his sites on one of the largest urban parks in the world: Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The park, which includes Alcatraz, the Marin Headlands, and the original military fortifications surrounding San Francisco, was conceived as part of a trend to make national park resources more accessible to urban populations. Interviews include Frank Heaney, Alcatraz prison guard, Heather Booth, park interpretive ranger, and Stephen Haller, civil war historian. D

Primary Sources: Workshops In American History  "Common Sense and the American Revolution: The Power of the Printed Word"  This workshop explores the power and importance of America's first "best-seller." Using the language of ordinary people, Thomas Paine's Common Sense called for revolution, challenging many assumptions about government and the colonies' relationship with England. This workshop contrasts the declarations of local communities with Common Sense to see how support for American independence rose up in the colonies.G
