Making Meaning In Literature: A Workshop for Teachers, Grades 6-8  "Workshop 8. Planning and Professional Development"  In order to grow in their careers, teachers need a great deal of sustenance. In this program, the teachers talk about the ways in which they fulfill this need as they develop individually and as members of a professional community. The group invites us into their classrooms to look at the way they have grown professionally, stimulated by their peers, their membership in professional organizations, and their willingness to seek out new thinking on literature and teaching literature. In Search of the Novel  "Where Do Novels Come From?"  This program explores the genesis of characters, plot, themes, and interpretation from the novelist's point of view. Participants examine the relationship between the novel and the objective reality from which it may spring. D

Fried Catfish BLTs bulk up the traditional sandwich with some crunchy fish filets and tricked-up basil mayonnaise. D

Rick Steves' Europe  "Istanbul"  Rick loses his way in the Grand Bazaar, munches through the famously fragrant Spice Market and follows the fall of the ancient capital of Byzantium and the rise of Islam at the city's wall.G

Equitrekking  "Vermont"  Equitrekking host Darley Newman visits the Mountain Top Inn outside of Killington to explore the area's Green Mountains trails and learn the art of driving with two large Clydesdales. At the Vermont Icelandic Horse Farm, Darley experiences the smooth gaits of the Icelandic horse on a multi-day inn-to-inn ride through meadows, woods and old farm lands in the Mad River Valley. Next, Darley visits the University of Vermont's Morgan Horse Farm to learn about Vermont's state animal and UVM's historic breeding program, which dates back to 1878. D

P. Allen Smith's Garden Home  "The Rose Show"  Allen devotes an entire show to one of his favorite flowers, roses! Allen makes a trip to the Southampton Rose Society to visit with a Rosarian and also drops in on the Madoo Conservancy and talks to Robert Dash about his amazing rose garden. We'll get some rose care tips, find out what plants are good companions for roses and sink our teeth into a delicious fresh from the garden salad with Allen and guest, Chef Capi Peck. D

Ask This Old House  "Fixing a Kitchen Sink Drain; Quieting Squeaky Hardwood Floors"  Plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey travels to Georgia to fix a kitchen sink drain. Then Richard, along with host Kevin O'Connor, landscape contractor Roger Cook and general contractor Tom Silva, asks "What Is It?" Afterward, Tom helps a homeowner quiet his squeaky hardwood floors. D

For Your Home  "Holy Faux, Part 6"  While decorative artists take over the house to create a child's fantasyland, Vicki and designer Cecil Adams spin some style in the living room and sunroom. D
