Shadows of David Thompson   Filmmaker George Sibley reviews the life of fur trader, surveyor and explorer David Thompson, who trekked from the Hudson Bay to the Pacific Ocean, on the bicentennial celebration of his exploration. For 28 years, Thompson traversed the Northwest making maps that were unsurpassed for 100 years. His journals are some of the earliest descriptions of what is now British Columbia and parts of Montana, Idaho and Washington state and where he opened the first trading posts between 1807 and 1812. The film features original music and interviews with historians and archivists.G

Iranian Americans   When their homeland is racked by political and religious upheaval, leading to revolution, tens of thousands of Iranians left their homeland for the United States. This account of displacement is told by more than 25 of these immigrants, who when uprooted built completely new lives in their new country. Cuisine Culture  "Daniel Boulud, New York"  Daniel Boulud takes us to his butcher in New York's Meat Packing District to choose the cut for his famed Seared Rib Eye and Red Wine Braised Short Ribs, teamed with a Tomato in a Light Choron Sauce stuffed with Marmalade, Spinach Fondue, Diced Buffalo Mozzarella Salad and a heavenly serving of Pommes Dauphines. We recreate coveted dishes from the acclaimed restaurant Boulud: Peekytoe Crab Salad in a mold of Persian Cucumber-Black Sesame Coulis, draped with Early Mesclun and Radishes. Dessert is arguably the best molten lava cake in the world: a Warm Guanaja Chocolate Coulant filled with oozing Liquid Caramel and paired with a Creamy Milk Sorbet. D

Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That!  "Maps/Termite Towers"  Maps - Nick and Sally are pretending to be pirates. The Cat takes them on a real pirate adventure by following a treasure map! They use landmarks to find their way to a real pirate treasure: parchment paper and ink pens to make their own pirate maps! Termite Towers - Sally and Nick just can't seem to keep their block tower from toppling over. The Cat in the Hat takes them to meet some expert tower builders: the termites! After shrinking down to bug-size, they learn from Terry termite how to build a tower that won't wiggle and wobble. D
