Scientific American Frontiers  "The Bionic Body"  This episode is about re-engineering the human body, and includes stories on artificial nerve stimulation for paralysis victims using implanted electrodes, and on implants of silicon chips in the retina. Host Alan Alda has a moving conversation with Christopher Reeve, while visiting Reeve at home to discuss his advocacy of increased research in this field. D

The 2-way radio gets miniaturized and the world's first portable walkie-talkie goes on the air. NOVA  "3D Spies of WWII"  Alarmed by rumors of advanced rockets and missiles, Allied intelligence recruit a team from British universities and Hollywood studios to an English country house. Team members use 3D stereoscopes to view millions of air photos of German territory, and are able to spot telltale clues that reveal hidden rocket bases. With 3D graphics NOVA recreates what WWII photo spies saw, and tells the suspenseful, previously untold story.G
