In this episode, ecologist Jim Cornett joins host David Yetman for a look around California's Coachella Valley, the lowest and hottest inhabited place in the Northern Hemisphere. After a walk around Palm Springs to examine the area's most famous residents, Yetman heads for the largest undisturbed palm oasis on Earth, Palm Canyon. D

In the 1920's silent-movie star Nell Shipman came to the most northern of Idaho's big lakes to produce her silent films. Today the area is a magnet for campers, fishermen, rock climbers, skiers and anyone who loves magical settings. This is, truly, one of the world's beautiful lakes.G

Leading monarch researchers put the phenomenon into perspective. The show also looks at the illegal logging in the Mexican state of Michoacan that is threatening their survival.G

Preemie   Born 1 pound 12 ounces, Mollie Sophia Samuels came into the world 3 months early. Facing obstacles that such a small child should never have to face, Mollie proved that even the smallest humans are capable of extraordinary resilience. Mollie's first 11 months of life were spent inside the sterile walls of the Helen DeVos Children's hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. D
