Zoology: Guests (2016)

Dr. Holly Holman

Veterinarian, Zoo Boise

Dr. Holly J. Holman has been the sole veterinarian at Zoo Boise since March of 2012. She earned her B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky in 2004 and completed veterinary school at the University of Tennessee in 2009. She then completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Kansas State University and then a two-year zoo medicine residency at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

During her veterinary training, she worked in the parasitology laboratory at the University of Tennessee and still considers parasite control one of her passions. While she was an undergraduate, she volunteered with the Kentucky Riding for the Handicapped program at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky.

Dr. Holman published her first paper in the Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine in 2013. This paper outlines a complicated fracture case from an Asian Small-Clawed Otter that she worked on during her residency.

In addition to research interests, she has a passion for her own zoo at home, which includes her husband, four children, three dogs, and one cat.
