Chris Tarrant: Extreme Railways  "The Diamond Railway (Southern Africa)"  Chris travels 1500 miles from Cape Town in South Africa, across Botswana to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, following the route of a mind-bogglingly ambitious railway pioneered by controversial 19th century British Colonialist, Cecil Rhodes. Rhodes made a fortune from diamonds and used it to fund his railway and to extend British rule across Africa, laying the foundations for apartheid in the process. Chris wants to discover if this railway built to further the interests of a white minority is still relevant to the people of these countries today. D

Forced back by the ice shelf Cook retreats to Hawaii for R&R before returning to the Arctic the following summer. But that was not to be. After nearly eleven years of voyaging from the Antarctic to the Arctic Circles trading, observing, befriending chiefs and villagers alike, even participating in local culture, Cook is clubbed and stabbed and drowned in a quintessentially tropical paradise. Finally on an uninhabited islet in mid - Pacific, Sam concludes his journey from being a "mere actor" when he set out to becoming "a man of the Pacific."G
