Joan Cartan-Hansen talks with Trillin about his work, including his most recent book, Quite Enough of Calvin Trillin: Forty Years of Funny Stuff. Trillin came to Idaho to speak to the Idaho Humanities Council.G

Characterized by one of the only continental hot spots in the world, Craters of the Moon encompasses three quarters of a million acres of lava flows, sagebrush, rolling hills... and a few surprises. Part of it is managed by the National Park Service, as a national monument. And it may be as close as any of us will ever come to a trip to the moon.G

NOVA  "Extreme Ice"  In collaboration with National Geographic, NOVA follows the exploits of photojournalist James Balog and a scientific team as they deploy time-lapse cameras to create a photo archive of melting glaciers. They grapple with blizzards, fickle technology and perilous climbs to anchor cameras that must withstand extreme cold and high winds.G

NOVA  "Secrets Beneath The Ice"  Scientists drill deep beneath the Antarctic ice, down through the sea and three-fourths of a mile into the seafloor, to recover rock cores that reveal details of climate and fauna from a time in the distant past when the Earth was just a few degrees warmer than it is today. They look for clues to indicate what may happen to the warming planet.G

Space Age: Nasa's Story  "Life In Space"  Taking knowledge from past missions, this final episode looks beyond NASA's fleeting visits to space - to a time when mankind explores deep space and learns to live beyond the Earth, replacing rivalry with partnership. The International Space Station sees Japanese, Canadian and European astronauts working on its completion in 2010.G
