NOVA  "Deadliest Volcanoes"  From Washington's Mt. Rainier and Yellowstone National Park to Europe, Japan and Iceland, NOVA follows scientists at work, who are using new tools and techniques that are starting to reveal what makes a volcano tick. Visit the Vesuvius monitoring room filled with electronic equipment to help determine what the mountain is "thinking."G
6:00 pm
Liquid Assets: The Story of Our Water Infrastructure   LIQUID ASSETS, a ninety-minute documentary, tells the story of essential infrastructure systems: water, wastewater, and stormwater. These systems - some in the ground for more than 100 years - provide a critical public health function and are essential for economic development and growth. Largely out of sight and out of mind, these aging systems have not been maintained, and some estimates suggest this is the single largest public works endeavor in our nation's history. D
7:30 pm
Greening of Eritrea: Seawater Brings Hope to Africa's Coast   The program explores the history of this young East African nation against the backdrop of a unique technology - one that has the potential to turn desert coastlines around the world into lush green fields. Challenged by a recurring drought and famine, the government of Eritrea, with the help of international investors, has introduced seawater agriculture to its barren coastline at Masawa on the Red Sea. By dredging rivers of seawater that flow upstream into the desert, jobs have been created for hundreds of Eritreans and cash crops are helping turn around an impoverished economy.G
8:00 pm
Globalization at the Crossroads with Hernando de Soto   Globalization has produced unprecedented prosperity in the past 60 years, yet the vast majority of the world's population - 80 percent - remains excluded from the system by Byzantine legal procedures and political repression. No matter how hard they work, they never can get ahead and reap the rewards of their enterprise. Shot on location across four continents, GLOBALIZATION AT THE CROSSROADS documents the disparities of wealth feeding that desperation, and suggests a solution in the work of renowned Peruvian economist, author and property rights activist Hernando de Soto and his Institute for Liberty and Democracy.
