Burt Wolf: Travels & Traditions  "Cayman Islands"  As Christopher Columbus was sailing back to Spain at the end of his fourth and final voyage to the New World, a storm came up between Panama and Haiti and pushed him off course. It pushed him to the west, directly into the islands that are now known as the Cayman Islands. Burt tours the island and discovers the history of scuba diving as he swims with the stingrays. D

OpenRoad  "Catalina"  Catalina Escape - Learn about the history, nature and potential for adventure on Southern California's Catalina Island. These stunning Caribbean isles offer a wide range of water activities from snorkeling and diving to swimming and sailing. D

Burt Wolf: Travels & Traditions  "New York City"  New York City is the world epicenter for money, creativity and culture. Burt takes a bite of the Big Apple, tells you how it came to be and takes you from the tip of the island to Central Park. Learn about the city's architectural heritage and how a nation of immigrants contributed to the gastronomy of the island. D

11:00 pm 
Social Studies In Action: A Methodology Workshop, K-5  "Workshop 4. Applying Themes and Disciplines"  What do we teach? Working from the NCSS themes and standards, the onscreen teachers identify approaches to integrating disciplines while teaching social studies content. Classroom video segments illustrate effective strategies for teaching across the curriculum and provide an opportunity to reflect on teaching practices. The session ends with the teachers developing a lesson plan that incorporates a variety of themes and disciplines. D
