The Desert Speaks  "Kickin' West On Route 66"  Join host David Yetman and his travel companion, ecologist Yar Petryszyn, as they travel along the historic Route 66 through some of the finest deserts in the United States. Beginning near the border of Texas and New Mexico, they cruise by convertible along the road that allowed thousands of Americans to make the journey to California. The Desert Speaks also takes the time to stop at some of the memorable locales along the way. D

Ciao Italia  "Exquisite Plums/Susine Squisite"  The plums are ripe for the picking at Butternut Farm, and Mary Ann takes to the ladder to gather a bushel full for her kitchen, where she creates a moist and tender Fresh Plum Tart topped with a dizzying spiral of sliced prunes and then creates a moist and tender Dried Prune Cake that melts in your mouth. Taste of History  "Nothing Grows On Exuma"  After the Revolutionary War, British Loyalists, who were no longer welcome in America, packed up their belongings, including their slaves, and sailed to Exuma, an island in the Bahamas. Their enterprise failed, and plantation owners returned to England, abandoning their slaves. The descendants of these slaves have kept their ancestors' rich culture alive on the island. D

Simply Ming  "Iris Tsai & Roasting Whole Birds"  SIMPLY MING drops into the heart of Napa Valley, where some of the best grapes are grown, producing some of the best wines around. Ming is joined in the kitchen by his mom, Iris Tsai. Together they cook on they fly, showing how to master cooking whole birds on the grill. D

America's Test Kitchen from Cook's Illustrated  "Simply Italian"  Test cook Becky Hays shows host Christopher Kimball how to make Rosemary Focaccia at home. Then, tasting expert Jack Bishop challenges Chris to a tasting of whole-wheat pasta. And finally, test cook Yvonne Ruperti uncovers the secrets to authentic Cacio e Pepe (Spaghetti with Pecorino Romano and Black Pepper). D

Around The House with Matt and Shari  "Reuse, Restore, Recycle"  Get a rewarding feeling by fixing something old up to look new again or find a new way to use something that may have been tossed out. Matt and Shari have great suggests for a recycling party. Then, Matt offers a recycling cart project. D

She explains to him that yoga is a special kind of exercise from India and all the breathing and stretching feels great. Telly is upset that he missed the class, but Rosita and Elmo offer to teach him what they learned. D

Dinosaur Train  "Buddy Explores The Tyrannosaurs/Rainy Day Fight"  Buddy, an adopted T. rex, wishes he knew more about his T. rex ancestors. So, Dad takes him and Tiny on the Dinosaur Train back to the early Cretaceous, to visit an ancestor: an earlier version of Tyrannosaurus rex called Raptorex. Rodney Raptorex is a kid who won't grow up to be as big as Buddy will, but the two boys find that they not only have a lot of differences, they have a lot in common, too. D

Super Why!  "Tiddalick The Frog"  Whyatt's mom tells him that he's wasting water. This is a really big problem and he's not sure how to fix it. So the Super Readers dash into the Australian folk tale of Tiddalick the Frog and make the acquaintance of a funny amphibian whose puddle jumping is using up all the water and leaving his neighbors in the dust - literally! As the Super Readers help Tiddalick and his dry friends, they learn how important water is to the planet along with a valuable lesson about conservation. D

Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That!  "A Plan for Sand/Whale Music"  A Plan for Sand - Nick and Sally are playing in their sandbox, but there's not enough room for them to build their castles. The Cat arrives to take them to the biggest sandbox they'll ever see! In the desert, they meet Carmela the Camel who teaches them about how camels are adapted to live in the dry, sandy climate. Whale Music - Nick and Sally have made a song to sing to their moms, but they can't get the ending quite right. D

Wild Kratts  "Kickin' It with the Roos"  When Chris and Martin meet up with a mob of Red kangaroos, they get their car keys stolen by a joey and have to figure out how to get them back from the tricky little guy. As they jump into the life of the roos to search for the missing keys, the brothers realize that animals live in different kinds of social groups and they have important behaviors that keep the group together and safe. But everybody wonders just how safe this search has become, when Chris and Martin get tangled up in a kickboxing match with the dominant male and caught in the middle of a dingo attack. D

Ucook! with Chef Bob   For the first course, Chef Bob puts together a succulent Parma ham salad with asparagus, morel mushrooms in a lemon thyme vinaigrette-dressing dish. Perfect for a first course and easy to make ahead of time before guests arrive. With this starter, Bob pairs an Italian Pinot Grigio, known for its crisp and clean fruit flavor that fills the mouth with the hints of apples and lichee. D

Rick Steves' Europe  "Florence: City of Art"  In the birthplace of the Renaissance, Rick provides tips for touring the Uffizi art gallery. He visits a fragrant 400-year-old perfumery, sips Campari on a rooftop and sleeps in a converted monastery.G

Outdoor Idaho  "Trip to the Moon"  One early traveler called it the strangest 75 square miles in North America. Characterized by one of the only continental hot spots in the world, Craters of the Moon encompasses three quarters of a million acres of lava flows, sagebrush, rolling hills... and a few surprises. Part of it is managed by the National Park Service, as a national monument. And it may be as close as any of us will ever come to a trip to the moon.G

Barry and Glenda help a new neighbor move in who turns out to be Toby (Trevor Bannister), Barry's irrascible golf captain.G

Red Green Does New Year's   Red and the guys from Possum Lodge approach New Year's resolutions in their own ways. The special includes an animated film from Ranger Gord called "A Forest New Year."G
