Audubon   Audubon is a one-hour documentary that explores the extraordinary figure of John James Audubon. A self-taught painter and ornithologist, he left a legacy of art and science that made him famous in his lifetime and endures to this day. His portrait hangs in the White House, his statue stands over the entrance to the American Museum of Natural History, and his name was adopted by the nation's first conservation organization. D

Martin Clunes: Islands of Australia  "1 of 3"  Martin's journey begins in Australia's most iconic city - Sydney. In the middle of Sydney Harbor lies Fort Denison, an island that symbolizes the city's colonial past. This is Martin's jumping off point as he heads for the subtropical paradise of Lord Howe Island. Approximately 600 kilometers from the mainland, Lord Howe Island has been settled by humans for fewer than 200 years. As a result, it's astonishingly pristine. Next up is Norfolk Island where Martin learns about its brutal, convict past and its proud present, meeting descendants of the Bounty mutineers. From Norfolk, Martin travels to Restoration Island to meet a modern day Robinson Crusoe and his dingo. Then on to Thursday and Friday Islands, the tropical homes of music and pearls.G

Violins of Hope: Strings of the Holocaust   For Jews during the Holocaust, there wasn't much reprieve from the despair and horror surrounding them, but music - particularly that of violins, which hold an important role in Jewish culture - offered temporary solace and a glimmer of humanity. Violinists in concentration camps were sometimes treated better and even spared their lives because of their ability to play this important instrument. This program follows the journey of Israeli violinmaker Amnon Weinstein in his efforts to restore violins recovered from the Holocaust, and captures the lessons and highlights the music the instruments now bring to others. These special artifacts from the Holocaust, which Weinstein has dubbed the "Violins of Hope," include instruments that were played by Jewish prisoners in concentration camps and others that belonged to the Klezmer musical culture.G

First Peoples  "Europe"  When Homo sapiens turned up in prehistoric Europe, they ran into the Neanderthals. The two types of human were similar enough to interbreed - and they were just as capable at making artifacts. But as more Homo sapiens moved into Europe, there was an explosion of art and symbolic thought. Part 5 of 5G
