This Old House  "Bedford Project, Part 14 of 16"  General contractor Tom Silva shows master carpenter Norm Abram how he's restoring the circa 1720 raised panel front door with flexible epoxy and a new paint job. Countertop installer Danny Puccio is on hand as the 1,300-pound marble island top is hefted into the kitchen, and kitchen designer Kathy Marshall shows how the hole in the marble will accommodate a concealed compost bin. Plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey shows host Kevin O'Connor how he's upgrading the ducted HVAC system to go from one zone to three with the help of a plug-and-play zone damper system that makes retrofits and zoning a hot air system easy. D

Ask This Old House  "Installing a Solid Oak Front Door; Driving Rebar Into the Ground"  General contractor Tom Silva heads to Atlanta to help a homeowner install a solid oak front door. Then Tom, along with host Kevin O'Connor, landscape contractor Roger Cook, and plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey, asks, "What is it?" Afterward, Roger shares several tips for driving rebar into the ground. D

Rainier and Yellowstone National Park to Europe, Japan and Iceland, NOVA follows scientists at work, who are using new tools and techniques that are starting to reveal what makes a volcano tick. Visit the Vesuvius monitoring room filled with electronic equipment to help determine what the mountain is "thinking."G

Outdoor Idaho  "Working for Wildlife"  Professionals and volunteers are in forests and fields - even cities - throughout Idaho working to increase knowledge about wildlife and its chances for survival. Cameras capture "deer tackling" in eastern Idaho; follow scientists and volunteers through deep snows to radio collar the seldom-seen elusive wolverine; and visit a woman raising orphan bears in her backyard in Garden City, adjacent to Boise.G

Oregon Field Guide  "Elk at Mt. St. Helens/Snowkiting/Lighthouse Photo Essay"  Elk populations are booming at Mount St. Helens, but there is concern about some of the steps designed to help them that include building giant structures in the middle of the Toutle River. Then on the backside of Mount Ashland, a snowkite group is kite skiing up the slopes.G

Himalaya with Michael Palin  "North By Northwest"  The former Monty Python player begins his 2,000-mile journey at the Khyber Pass where he takes the Khyber steam railway through the North-West Frontier Provence, home of the Pathan people, who live by the philosophy of hospitality and revenge. He meets a street dentist and prince and is introduced to bull racing. Later in Chirral, Palin views a polo match on the highest polo field in the world. Part 1 of 6G

Masterpiece Classic  "Downton Abbey, Series II - Part One"  War now wages in Europe. Young men go to war - or avoid it. Mary returns from London. Matthew stuns everyone with an announcement. Sybl, who experiences sorrow over the number of her dance partners dying in battle, wants to do something of significance and enrolls in a nursing course. Among the servants, a new maid proves difficult and Bates has an announcement for Annie. Mr. Carson tries to run the household with a short staff. Thomas returns to a place at the hospital. New Tricks  "Father's Pride"  A camera and film belonging to a photographic lab assistant murdered in 1987 are discovered in the toilets of a Soho pub. Two images stand out and the team seeks a connection. Gerry's daughter joins the team to help the investigation.G
