Social Studies In Action: A Teaching Practices Library, K-12  "Standards Overview, K-5"  This program includes K–5 classroom examples from across the country that define and illustrate the 10 NCSS thematic strands and present a variety of ways that they can be integrated into the K–5 curriculum. The primary grades begin to lay the foundation and groundwork for big ideas and concepts in social studies, such as a sense of place, time, community, and justice. D

Hands On Crafts for Kids  "Right In Your Own Backyard"  Today's theme is crafting right in your own back yard. Seed packet flowers are first and you can even plant them. Then, it's a clay nest and eggs. D

Travel with Kids  "Alaska - Kenai Peninsula"  Board an RV and head south through Alaska's well-traveled, but still remote, Kenai Peninsula. In Homer, spot eagles soaring above and otters playing around their kayaks as they paddle through Kachemak Bay discovering giant starfish and eating seaweed. In Whittier, board a scientific research vessel that still measures the effects of the oil spill and gets up close to massive glaciers crashing into the waters of Prince William Sound and navigate through icebergs.
